TOMORROW'S BEST CAREERS

Each new technology requires special knowledge by anyone having to function in the modern world.

Careers hitched to computers and the Internet will continue to be sizzling hot. There are 2 billion Internet users worldwide and a new PC or gizmo is switched on every half-second. During this decade, computer-related jobs will explode by 40% or more. With software becoming more consumer-oriented, programmers are in great demand. Video games and 3-D animated and graphic display films/videos are big business, creating a shortage of programmers and animators.

Biotechnology is nurturing a revolution that promises to transform dozens of industries, from farming and mining to pharmaceuticals and pollution control. Also sometimes called bio-engineering, biotech involves genetic engineering, gene splicing and cloning to create new life forms and improve old ones. Biotech research is moving fast into the marketplace.

Biomedical technology (or biomed) is related to biotech in that bionic implants and diagnostic tools are based on the biochemical compatibility of the human body. The bionic human is becoming reality as scientists, engineers, technicians, doctors and others team up to create medical miracles. Researchers are making artificial limbs and organs, diagnostic test equipment and surgical operating tools. Others are working to perfect artificial eyes, ears, hearts, and kidneys. There will be jobs galore in biomed in the next decade.
